HOW TO BRAND YOUR IMAGES

As I said in BRAND YOUR BLOG article , images are the most important part. Make the first impression and decide whether the reader will engage with your content or just pass. So if you want to brand your blog first step is to brand your images. How do you create images that will actually support your brand ?

There is a set of rules that you have to use for each image

  • ➜ SAME COLORS – THE COLORS OF YOUR BRAND
  • ➜ SAME FONTS – MAXIM 3 TYPES OF FONTS (ONLY 1 DECORATIVE)
  • ➜ SAME STYLE – Everything has to go together as a good OUTFIT
  • ➜ SAME LOGO – If you want to be recognized, always use the same logo, submark and signature, don’t switch between them because you changed your mind.

Normally the colors and fonts must be the same as the one on your blog . And it’s time saving if you have a folder with the images you will use(same style and colors). So, you don’t have to scroll everytime through a lot of files and images or worse, search the internet.

For my images I use Photoshop but if all you want to do is making graphics for your blog and social media I think Photoshop is a bit too overqualified. I can not say about Photoshop that it’s very easy to use. And because does have unlimited features the price is a bit high.

So what I recommend for you is PicMonkey. I think of PicMonkey like a child of Photoshop. Is very simple to use, has a lot of features and is made specially for graphics.

The coolest part is that it has already integrated templates, so you will be able to make a complicated design with just a few clicks.

And the price is still good. You can try it for free 7 days, so you can decide if is for you or not. After that you will pay 7.99$ per month or if you pay for a year it will be 5.99$ per month.

PICMONKEY

Bellow I create 2 demo images for you with PicMonkey so you can see how easy is to use it. If you want to get along with me, Sign-up for a free trial on PicMonkey and let’s started.

This is the interface. Simple and practical. Has 3 big section:

  • Auto-saved to my Hub – All the graphics you will create will be auto-saved so you can use them later for other designs.
  • Featured Templates – Here is where you can find a lot of beautiful templates ready to use.
  • College layouts and blank canvases – Blank Canvases for social media, etsy shop, universal sizes , no more searching for cover facebook size. Or you can make a custom one.

I prepared 2 images, one build with a featured template and one made on blank canvas.

BRAND YOUR IMAGES WITH FEATURED TEMPLATES

Go to Featured Templates and hit on see all Templates >>

brand your images
Choose a template you like and with the appropriate size for your need. I chose Hot Plate template, third line.

In the black box with layers you can see all the elements that make up your graphic. Each element is a layer and their order is crucial (when you have overlapping elements) .

Anyway, let’s create our image and you will understand better what layers are.

WHAT TO DO AFTER YOU CHOOSE YOUR TEMPLATE, WHERE TO START ?

TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR TEMPLATE DESIGN

A Image with some text and a fancy background. I don’t like the text below so I will delete that and add another one. You can make changes to a template, but the point is to use that template, not change almost everything.

ADD YOUR IMAGE

brand your images

Hit ADD AN IMAGE button at the top, and select from your computer a image that fit the message and the orientation. Then you can resize and move the image with click and drag.

CHANGE THE TEXT

brand your images

You can change the text very easy. Click on the text you want to change and a text window will pop-up. There you can change color, size, bold, italic, opacity and other advanced effects. If you want to change the font family, hit Tt on left.

brand your images

Now I will delete the text I don’t like. In Layers Window, select the layer with the ugly text and at the bottom of the window, there is an icon with a trash for delete layer.

Add new text. Hit on Tt on the left and ADD TEXT BOX. Choose your font family, color, size, weight and style.

Everytime you want to add a different text you have to add another TEXT BOX. So, for Brand your blog I added 2 text boxes.

CHANGE THE COLORS

Select the ornamental graphics and a window named GRAPHICS will pop-up. From there you can change the colors.

ADD YOUR SUBMARK

brand your images

Same thing as adding a normal image, hit the ADD AN IMAGE at the top. Resize and move your logo with click and drag. And the last important step, in the LAYERS WINDOW , move the layer with the logo up, to be first at the top.

TAKE A LAST LOOK

In the end I decided that I want the text with new black, so I clicked on NEW and changed the color. And another image. I just added another image. Simple like that.

EXPORT YOUR GRAPHIC

When you’re happy with your image, hit EXPORT at the top. And here we go, you have a beautiful image ready to be shared with the world.

BRAND YOUR IMAGES WITH BLANK CANVASES

Go to College layouts and blank canvases and hit on see all blanks >>

brand your images

Let’s say you want to design yourself your pins. Still very easy because PicMonkey has all the features one click away.

Choose the blank canvas for long pin. Give it a name and you can even create a collection and add your new graphic to it. A good way to sort your graphics.

And you are ready to brand your images.

WHAT TO ADD ?

IMAGE

You already know how to add an image, resize it and move it. But what I wanted to show is that you can take the picture out of the canvas . Only the part of the image that is inside your canvas will be displayed.

TITLE

Want to make your text curved? From TEXT window, select Effects, check Curved text and increase or decrease the curvature.

YOUR SUBMARK

If you add an element such as your logo or maybe some text on an image and you see that another layer overlaps and the element added is not in the foreground. This means that the element added in the LAYERS window is under that element and you must lift it up.

YOUR LINK

You can add all kinds of graphics, banners, labels, brushes, geometric patterns, icons, elements, and so on. PicMonkey has a great library with them. You can change their color , redimension and add effects.

As you can see here, the text must be above the rectangle. I refer to the order in the window with Layers.

AND YOU ARE READY

So we’ve made another basic but pretty nice image for our pinterest account with just a few clicks.

CONCLUSION

Of course PicMonkey is not only for graphics. You can edit photos with people or landscapes, has feature for touch up (skin, mouth, eyes, weight, highlights, clone), effects , auto adjust, advanced edits. And a lot of other features but what I wanted to show you was how to use it for create beautiful images for your brand. Next I will show you how to create basic Logos with graphics , textures and blend mode.

Another cool thing is that they have mobile app so you can prepare fast and easy your instagram posts from your phone. Attached to their site they have a blog where you can learn a lot of how to do creative things.

At the end of the day, I think PicMonkey is a must for every blogger who want to make a name. It will save a lot of your time , cut the stress and make you really enjoying preparing all your images.
