You’ve thought about the idea of branding your blog, but you do not have a budget to hire someone to make your logo. The good news is, you can create a logo very easy. And you don’t even need to be a designer.
Disclosure: This page contains affiliate links, meaning I earn a commission if you use those links. I will always only recommend brands I trust and ones I think you’ll love too.
I wrote the article HOW TO BRAND YOUR IMAGES, where I recommended to you PicMonkey. I showed you how easy you can create beautiful images for pinterest. Now I’ll show you how to create a submark (actually 5, there are 5 examples). If you want to get along with me, Sign-up for a free trial on PicMonkey and let’s started.
PICMONKEY QUICK VIEW
This is the interface. Simple and practical. Has 3 big section:
- Auto-saved to my Hub – All the graphics you will create will be auto-saved so you can use them later for other designs.
- Featured Templates – Here is where you can find a lot of beautiful templates ready to use.
- College layouts and blank canvases – Blank Canvases for social media, etsy shop, universal sizes , no more searching for cover facebook size. Or you can make a custom one.
You can even create a logo from template and at the end of the post I will show you how to do it.
CREATE A LOGO WITH A BLANK CANVAS
Hit CREATE NEW at the top of the page, next to PicMonkey logo. Then, Edit an image from Blank canvas, Choose a blank canvas >> Custom 500 x 500 pixeles and MAKE IT! . And here we go.
CREATE A LOGO WITH THE SLOGAN A IN CIRCLE
In the left toolbar you have Tt, the fourth button. Click on Tt and options for text will appear. Every time you want to add a different text you have to add another TEXT BOX.
So, click on ADD TEXT BOX. Choose your font family, color, size, weight and style. Then, you can move and resize the text box with click and drag. When you resize the text box, the font will NOT increase or decrease, only the space allocated to text.
AND A SLOGAN
Use again ADD TEXT BOX and introduce your slogan. Choose a font family, color and size.
ADD TEXT EFFECT
Now we have to make the text to be displayed in a circle. Go to Effects in TEXT window, check the Curved Text and select Circle.
Even if the text is displayed in a circle you can change the text anytime, just click on the text. If the circle style distracts you, just uncheck the Curved Text, change the text and check back.
SET THE BACKGROUND
Always set the background to FADE 100%, this means transparent. But before you could change the fade, click on Color Background in LAYERS window, convert the background to a layer.
When you’re happy with the result, hit EXPORT at the top. And you have your first submark.
If you will receive a message that your changes are not yet saved, click on CREATE NEW. The submark will be saved in the background in the HUB section and in the meantime, we will create another one.
CREATE A LOGO WITH THE SLOGAN ONLY IN A PART OF THE CIRCLE
Click on CREATE NEW at the top of the page, next to PicMonkey logo. Then, Edit an image from Blank canvas, Choose a blank canvas >> Custom 500 x 500 pixeles and MAKE IT! .
Click on Tt button for text and ADD TEXT BOX. Choose your font family, color, size, weight and style. Type your text.
ADD THE SLOGAN
Add another text box for your slogan ( ADD TEXT BOX ).
ADD TEXT EFFECT
Add the curved text style. TEXT window, Effects , check the Curved text , select Circle. The trick here is that you make the text box small, click and drag from the corner. So your circle will be smaller. Then, click on the text and add some spaces at the beginning of the text and at the end. Play around until you are happy with the result. And move the text in position.
SET THE BACKGROUND
Again, convert the Background Color into a layer then change the FADE to 100%.
You do not necessarily have to export everything you create. This is for you to practice and get an idea of what you can do. So, export when you are ready.
CREATE A LOGO WITH GRAPHICS AND TEXTURE
I think you already know the path, how to create a blank canvas with custom sizes for our new submark. Because the steps are the same. CREATE NEW, Edit an image from Blank canvas, Choose a blank canvas >> Custom 500 x 500 pixeles and MAKE IT!
Tt >> ADD TEXT BOX >> choose font family, size and color >> type your text >> move your text in position.
Add another text box, change the font family and size.
PicMonkey has a collection with graphics included, and you can change their color, size, texture and so on. Now, if you want to add a graphic click on the fifth sign in the left bar. The icon with graphics. And a list with types of graphics will show up, and a button to add your own image. If you click on a type, other sublists will show.
But you will explore all later, now click on the Basic and scroll down until you find that leaf branch and click on it.
Same for the second one, or you can just click right on the layer with leaf branch, in LAYERS window, and DUPLICATE THE LAYER. Then, move the other leaf at the top.
And we have to rotate the leaf. On the left bar, click on first icon, for Edits and ROTATE. Click on rotate clockwise two times and APPLY. Move around the leaf branch and text until everything looks good.
I will show you something pretty cool and new. How to add texture to something (text, graphics ).
In LAYERS window, select the layers for the elements you want to add texture. Here I selected all the elements except background. You can select multiple layers by holding down the CTRL key.
Then, on the left bar, press the seventh icon, for Textures. Here you can add your own textures or you can use them. Here the options are unlimited because you can find a lot of beautiful free textures or buy some at a low price. And there are textures for almost everything. You can add even a photo if the graphic is big enough and looks good.
After you decided about your texture. I personally used the button REPLACE YOUR TEXTURE, a few times. Anyway, what’s important here is the Fade. I set my Fade to 0% so my texture will be seen crystal clear. If you move up and down the Fade, you will see what I’m talking about.
SET THE BACKGROUND
Same story, convert the background to a layer, change the Fade to 100%.
CREATE A LOGO WITH GRAPHICS WHICH OVERLAPS EACH OTHER
Because the steps are all the same, and you can see all in images, I will add explanation only where is something new or different.
Here I added a solid rectangle and made it so small that it looks like a line. It’s a little annoying to work with such small items when you want to move them, you find out that you actually resize them.
Then add a white triangle with black border . This means the interior is transparent. Resize it to be big enough to fit the writing into it and to looks good.
And other black triangle, this means the interior will be colored too, when you change the color. Resize this one to be equal with the first one. And don’t worry if overlaps everything, we will fix this next.
SET THE GRAPHICS ORDER
Select the black triangle, which you have added the last, and the move it at the bottom, right before the background. Change the color with something more appealing so we can see the text and the other triangle.
STYLE YOUR GRAPHICS
We have to move the colored triangle a bit. So, be sure that the triangle is selected in LAYERS, click the first icon on the left bar, for Edits, select ROTATE and now we will use Straighten. Move the straighten to 5 degree and hit APPLY. Repeat the action for three times.
For the transparent triangle, we want to erase two slices of his border. Be sure that the right triangle is selected in LAYERS, so we don’t erase from something else.
In GRAPHICS window, select ERASE. Increase the HARDNESS to 100% and positionate your mouse over the triangle border to see if you need to increase or decrease the size. When the size is good click once. If you want to undo the erase press CTRL+Z and try again.
Select only the layers you want to add texture. The colored triangle will remain unselected.
On the left bar, press the seventh icon, for Textures. I added my own and set the fade to 0% .
SET THE BACKGROUND
CREATE A LOGO WITH ICON
I will not go with you through how to make the logo and submarks below, because are the same techniques I explained above. What I want to show you here is that you have colorful graphics to which you can change colors with just a few clicks. Cool , right? And some of them really look good.
CREATE A LOGO WITH A FEATURED TEMPLATE
Now, how you can use the logos you see on the featured templates? I believe that you know, you can’t use the logo from the template when you make a graphic for your blog or social media. Not that PicMonkey would not let you but you can’t make graphics with a different logo each time. You have to delete it and add yours, so people will know it’s your graphic.
Now if you really like a logo from a featured template, and want to make it yours, here’s what you need to do.
CHOOSE A TEMPLATE
Select the featured template with the logo you like.
DELETE WHAT YOU DON’T NEED
Take a look at the LAYERS window and figure out what you have to delete. If you are not sure, delete the images first, they are quite obvious and certainly not part of the logo. Next, click on each layer in LAYERS window and see what’s activated on the image.
You can delete a layer with right click on the layer and select DELETE THE LAYER or at the bottom of the window, there is an icon with a trash for delete layer. You can select multiple layers by holding down the CTRL key.
CROP THE IMAGE
Go to Edits (first icon on the left bar), and select CROP. Because the image has a width of 600 pixels I cropped the image to a height of 600 pixels. Introduce your value for the width and height, then hit on Apply.
RESIZE YOUR LOGO
And I resized the logo. First of all the decorative graphic, I made it big as the whole image and centered. Next, click on every text, delete the old one and type in something appropriate, increase the font size. You can change the color for font but for the graphic, only add a texture or some advance effects. And move things around until everything will look simetric again.
SET THE BACKGROUND
As a final step, convert your Background Color into a layer and add a 100% Fade , so the background will be transparent.
And voila. Your logo is ready. With these steps, you can extract any logo you want.
You have to remember that here I am only presenting some techniques. But the number of logos you can make are endless. Because you can add any type of texture and graphics. And at the end, this is what a logo is, a text, maybe a graphic behind or above, or some text with a cool texture. Some people use Picmonkey to make digital products for selling. So don’t underestimate his power.
I will write other articles about how to do things fancy things for your blog, like a signature, call to action buttons, social media, about image and how to integrate them to your blog, so stay close. Or subscribe to my newsletter.
